Barrie will compete in MLS NEXT Pro beginning in 2028, bringing top-level professional soccer to Barrie’s waterfront. The club is the second team to Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC and will be the first ever professional sports team to call Barrie home.

Barrie MLS NEXT Pro is the second team of Toronto FC. This partnership gives Barrie MLS NEXT Pro access to world-class coaching infrastructure, player development pipelines, and the full backing of Canada’s most decorated football club, Toronto FC. Toronto FC will manage all sporting aspects of the Club, including players and coaching, along with ownership of the MLS NEXT Pro franchise. Barrie MLS NEXT Pro will manage all commercial and operations of the Club.

It serves as the proving ground for the continent’s brightest young talent - the direct pathway between the grassroots game and the top flight.Competing in MLS NEXT Pro means Barrie MLS NEXT Pro will compete against affiliates of all 30 MLS clubs, bringing internationally recognised competition to Downtown Barrie every season.
